'Making A Murderer' was so successful, a second series is in the works, producers have confirmed.
The first series, which debuted over Christmas on Netflix, followed the trial of Steven Avery, and his conviction for the murder of Teresa Halbach in 2005, along with the conviction of his nephew Brendan Dassey.
The questions being raised over the conviction of Avery, who had previously sought to sue the Wisconsin state for a previous wrongful conviction, led to a petition for his freedom acquiring more than half a million signatures since the series was aired last year.

Now, Variety reports that directors Laura Ricciardi and Moira Demos are in discussions with Steven Avery's new attorney, Kathlen Zellner, and they have continued to record conversations with Steven Avery and his family.
“From our perspective this story is obviously not over,” they quote Ricciardi. “It’s real life and [the] cases are both still pending. We have no idea when the magistrate will make a decision in Brendan’s case. We do know that two potential outcomes are that the judge could order Brendan’s release or he could order a new trial. So we are on the edge of seats about that. To the extent that there are significant developments, we would like to continue documenting this (case).”
Steven Avery's two previous lawyers, Dean Strang and Jerry Buting, are no longer working on the case, although they have continued to speak out against the manner of the trial against him - both attorneys have much increased public profiles as a result of their appearance in the series.
