'Devious' Dating Site Rapist Sentenced For Attacks On Seven Women

Serial rapist Jason Lawrance, who committed sex attacks against seven women he met though dating website Match.com, has been jailed for life with a minimum term of 12 years and six months years at Derby Crown Court.

The 50-year-old father was convicted of raping five women, attempting to rape another and sexually assaulting another, all of whom he met through the site, between 2011 and 2014.

Lawrance, from Liphook, Hampshire, would persuade women on the site to give him their personal contact details by claiming that he could not upload a photo to his profile.

After a two-and-a-half week trial, a jury unanimously found him guilty of all charges.

Judge Gregory Dickinson told him he was "devious, manipulative and highly dangerous to women".

Speaking outside court, Detective Chief Inspector Allison Rigby, from Derbyshire Police, said: "Jason Lawrance is a prolific, serial rapist who preyed on women he had contacted through Match.com.

"These women were looking for companionship and instead what they found was a man who was willing to commit serious sexual offences against them."

She added: "“There are seven women who were abused at his hands, who had to relive their ordeals in front of complete strangers at court.

“I hope that yesterday’s verdict and the substantial sentence handed to Jason Lawrance today will bring them some comfort.

“This has been a long, complex police investigation and I am pleased that, at its conclusion, we have been able to put a dangerous sexual predator behind bars.”
