#ResignyMcResignFace Birthed Out Of Resign David Cameron Protest

We're getting wonderful #BoatyMcBoatFace flashbacks.

When Britons voted to call a new polar research vessel #BoatyMcBoatFace, we weren't sure just how much better things could get.

But as hundreds of people took to the streets of London on Saturday to protest over David Cameron's tax affairs and treatment of tax avoidance, a new hashtag demanding the Prime Minister resign was born.

While many used the hashtags #ResignCameron and #ResignDavidCameron to get their message across, somewhere along the line, someone came up with quite frankly the best social media trends we've seen in a while...#ResignyMcResignFace.

An open vote allowing the public to offer names for a new £200 million Royal Research Ship threw up a sensational frontrunner earlier this year— the RRS Boaty McBoatface.

The vessel, which is 128 metres long and is due to be in operation in the Arctic and Antarctic from 2019, will carry up to 90 scientists and support staff.

The person responsible for suggesting the name in the first place in the Natural Environment Research Council (NERC) poll went on to apologise for the name.

Hundreds of demonstrators besieged the hotel where David Cameron gave a speech to the Conservative Party’s Spring Conference on Saturday.

In a bid to pressure the Prime Minister to either resign or close tax loopholes, protestors marched from Downing Street to the entrance of The Grand Connaught Rooms in London.

The Panama-themed protest also saw protesters beat a pig-shaped piñata with Cameron's face.
