‘Britain’s Got Talent’ might be one of the biggest shows on telly, but Paul O’Grady has insisted he has “no regrets” about giving it the brush-off during its early days.
The chat show host has previously admitted that Simon Cowell had initially approached him to front what would have been called ‘Paul O’Grady’s Got Talent’, but turned him down flat, fearing it would appear “quite arrogant”.
Speaking to The Sun, Paul explained: “I have no regrets about turning it down. I would get bored if I was a judge on it.”
He continued: “It’s a great show with all those eccentrics. But I would not go on it if I was starting off today.
Fortunately, ‘BGT’ hasn’t suffered without Paul’s involvement, with Ant and Dec currently in their tenth year of presenting the hit ITV series.
This year’s auditions are already proving a hit with fans of the show, with two acts already having been given the Golden Buzzer, automatically securing them a place in the live shows.
Amanda Holden was the first to hit the golden buzzer, after being wowed by teenage singer Beau Dermott.
In last week’s show, the choir ‘100 Voices Of Gospel’ were then given a pass to the final by Alesha Dixon, much to the chagrin of Simon Cowell, who’d wanted to hit the golden buzzer himself.
