The Queen's 90th Birthday: Nadiya Hussain Of 'Great British Bake Off' Presents HRH With Her Birthday Cake

One does love a spot of orange drizzle.

Nadiya Hussain could breathe a sigh of relief this afternoon (21 April), as the cake she presented to the Queen on her 90th birthday received the royal seal of approval.

Having been selected by Buckingham Palace to bake an official cake for the occasion, 'The Great British Bake Off' winner nervously introduced her efforts on Thursday, as HRH celebrated her milestone birthday.

The Queen looked to be impressed as she prepared to cut into the orange drizzle cake, during a brief stop from her birthday walkabout in Windsor.

“Does it cut?” Her Majesty was heard asking.

“I hope so!” Nadiya said.

Fortunately, as she plunged the knife into the three-tier purple and gold creation, the Queen assured Nadiya it cut smoothly.

The baker, who won the 2015 series of 'Bake Off', has spent the last few weeks perfecting her recipe in her kitchen at home.

She said on ITV's 'Loose Women': “A few weeks ago I got an email and then a phone call from my agent, she was like, ‘Yeah it’s true.’

“I had the option, I could’ve said no. I can’t say no to the Queen can I?

“I opted for no fruit cake… I said let’s do something a little bit different. I’m doing an orange drizzle with orange curd and butter cream, very citrusy.

“I’m too nervous to even look at the oven right now!” she added.
