During its six years on the air, ‘Great British Bake Off’ has become one of the BBC’s biggest successes of modern times, but it’s now been claimed the show could be about to find a new home.
When this year’s ‘Bake Off’ winner is crowned, the hit show’s three-year contract with the BBC will come to an end, with reports suggesting other broadcasters, including ITV, are hoping to snag it from the Beeb.
According to The Sun, ITV could be willing to shell out as much as £20million for the rights to air ‘Bake Off’ on the same channel as ratings hits such as ‘Britain’s Got Talent’, ‘I’m A Celebrity’ and ‘Ant And Dec’s Saturday Night Takeaway’.
They aren't the only ones interested though, as it's being claimed that Channel 4 and Sky are also considering whether to purchase the show.
An insider reveals: “It’s no surprise all the broadcasters want a chance at landing Bake Off. It really would be a fantastic fit for Channel 4.
The most recent final of ‘Bake Off’, which saw Nadiya Hussain crowned winner by judges Mary Berry and Paul Hollywood, pulled in a staggering 15 million viewers, making it the most-watched programme of 2015.
Since her victory, Nadiya’s gone from strength to strength, landing her own cooking show ‘The Chronicles Of Nadiya’ and even making the Queen’s 90th birthday cake, as part of her celebrations earlier this month.
Reports ‘Bake Off’ could be switching teams comes after ‘The Voice UK’ made the jump to ITV, following five years on the BBC.
