Zayn Malik's latest fashion statement is causing a bit of controversy. And no, we're not talking about those robotic arms at the Met Gala.

In a wildly confusing move, the pop star went for hike in the sweltering Malibu sun wearing black skinny jeans and mismatched footwear.

Some have speculated the look was accidental - did he lose his trainer mid-hike and replace it "with a boot he found in the dirt"? MTV asks.

Whatever the case, we don't think it's going to catch on.
