Can we please just talk for a minute about Nadiya Hussain’s latest magazine cover?
It’s hard to believe that it’s been just seven short months since some particularly impressive iced buns made Nadiya a household name around the nation, when she was crowned winner of ‘Great British Bake Off’.
As we’re sure you recall, at the time, she gave a rousing speech, telling viewers: “I’m never gonna put boundaries on myself ever again. I’m never gonna say I can’t do it. I’m never gonna say ‘maybe’. I’m never gonna say, ‘I don’t think I can.’ I can and I will.”
She wasn’t lying, either, in the months since ‘Bake Off’, Nadiya has landed a new role as a magazine columnist, appeared as a panellist on ‘Loose Women’ and even made the Queen’s 90th birthday cake.
And now, the slay-age continues, with her latest magazine cover for The Times magazine's food special.
Those eyebrows. Those sunglasses. THOSE NAILS. To employ an overused-but-nontheless-pertinent turn of phrase, she's looking 'on fleek'.
In the accompanying interview, Nadiya opens up about her own experiences of racism, as a Muslim woman living in Britain, admitting: “It would be easier to say I’d rather blend in, but I am proud of who I am, despite all the negativity that we get. After every Islamic terrorist attack, I walk out of the door with a cloud over my head.
However, she does admit to feeling optimistic about the future for British Muslims, adding: “It’s nice living in England and we are, I like to think, a very integrated society. The negative people are definitely in the minority.”
Nadiya has previously spoken about being on the receiving end of racist abuse, even revealing that a string of threatening tweets forced her to seek police protection, following her ‘Bake Off’ victory.
Fans of Nadiya will be pleased to hear that she’s currently gearing up to appear in her own TV show, the wonderfully-titled ‘The Chronicles Of Nadiya’, which will see her on an ‘exuberant’ food-inspired journey to Bangladesh.
