Mum Revealed The Reason She Named Her Baby 'KVIIIlyn'

'Now our daughter is truly unique.'

A mum has revealed how she came up with a very unusual choice of spelling for her daughter's name.

The woman from Australia, known only by her surname Mavis, was writing a paragraph about the inspiration behind the name for a magazine.

"I've always loved the name Kaitlyn but hated how popular it was," the mother said.

"So when I found out I was having a girl, my husband suggested we replace the 'ait' with the Roman numeral symbol for eight!

"Now our daughter is truly unique."

The name is therefore spelt 'KVIIIlyn', with the 'ait' sound represented by the number eight in roman numerals 'VIII'.

When an image of the mother's quote was posted on Reddit by SydneyTom, people weren't a fan of the unique spelling.

One person commented : "I have a long name and when I was in nursery I could never remember how to spell it so I sounded it out," wrote one person. "I would be so humiliated."

Others didn't quite understand the reasoning behind why the name was spelt with numerals.

One person wrote: "Assuming this whole thing isn't a joke, there's already a few different ways to spell Kaitlyn. There's Caitlin, Katelyn, Caitlyn, and I'm pretty sure there's more.

"If the idea was to have different spelling, surely they could use one of those?"
