Rock singer Meat Loaf has been taken to hospital in Canada, after collapsing in the middle of a live show on Thursday night (16 June).
Meat Loaf - real name Michael Lee Aday - was performing in Edmonton, Canada, when he suddenly collapsed in the middle of a rendition of ‘I Would Do Anything For Love’, at the very end of his concert.
Edmonton fire service have confirmed that they responded to a medical call at the Northern Jubilee Auditorium, where Meat Loaf was performing, with Alberta Health Service then taking him to a nearby hospital.
Further information on his condition is currently unknown, though the AHS told Global News he’d suffered a “fainting episode”.
One witness told CBC: “He fell … he just fell. I thought it was a joke, I didn't know what was going on because he was joking around throughout his set."
His collapse comes after the 68-year-old singer was forced to postpone dates in Canadian tour stops Moose Jaw and another in Calgary, due to health reasons.
Back in March, he also postponed a live date in Pennsylvania, due to a severe case of the flu.
He said at the time: “I was not going to give you a subpar show, after you have spent your hard-earned money to buy the tickets. I know some of you will be upset because the show [is] cancelled. You would would have been more upset had I gone on stage really hoarse… I am so sorry.”
Meat Loaf has enjoyed a career in the music industry spanning six decades, with a string of hits including ‘Bat Out Of Hell’, ‘Two Outta Three Ain’t Bad’ and ‘Dead Ringer For Love’ to his name.
