James Corden Reveals He Struggled To Get Work Because Of His Weight

James Corden has admitted he struggled to get roles at the start of his career because of the way he looked.

The former 'Gavin And Stacey' star, who now hosts 'The Late Late Show' in the US, has told of how his weight often meant he failed to land the roles he wanted or meant he would be typecast.

"Decisions when I started were only made on the way I looked," he told The Sunday People.

"They were like, 'You look like this, so you will work your way to playing a bubbly judge or something.'"

He continued: "I would audition twice a month and go up to London and not get it. At the time it would be demoralising. The only thing that separates an amateur and a professional is rejection, when you are either told you are too fat or your ears are too big."

Thankfully, James no longer has the same problem and is now one of the biggest stars on both sides of the Atlantic, after landing the 'Late Late Show' gig in 2015.

He has become a runaway success on the late-night US chat show, and has attracted big name guests including Justin Bieber, Adele, One Direction and Mariah Carey to take part in his Carpool Karaoke sketch.

James' former comedy partner Mathew Horne recently revealed plans for them to work together again, once he returns home to the UK.

The pair formed a close friendship while starring on 'Gavin And Stacey', but became the subject of fall-out rumours after they suffered a string of professional flops, including film 'Lesbian Vampire Killers' and sketch show 'Horne And Corden'.

However, Mathew played down reports they'd fallen out in an interview with The Mirror, telling them: “James remains a friend and never wasn’t a friend. We have remained friends ever since we met.

"He is still the same old James really - just that he’s now earning millions in Hollywood, meeting mega stars and interviewing them."

He continued: "I spoke to him the other day and he is back and forth across the Atlantic... But yeah, it is definite that when he is back we will do something together again."
