‘Strictly Come Dancing’ 2016: Cheryl Baker Reckons Her Chances Of Taking Part Have Been ‘Scuppered’

'It’s the first I heard of it when I read it in the paper myself.'

If, like us, you were looking forward to Cheryl Baker incorporating the legendary Bucks Fizz skirt-ripping routine on ‘Strictly Come Dancing’ after she was rumoured to be taking part, then we (possibly) have bad news.

The 62-year-old has made no secret of the fact that she’d love to be a contestant on the BBC dance show, but reckons her chances have been “scuppered” after the rumour mill went into overdrive about who might be appearing.

During an interview with her Fizz bandmates on Friday’s ‘Lorraine’, Cheryl admitted she’d “love” to take part on the dance show.

“Strictly would be great,” she said “I would love to see me in that.”

She added: “I think whoever put this rumour out there has probably scuppered me.

“It’s the first I heard of it when I read it in the paper myself, so I would have thought they would have asked me before they put it in the paper.”

Judge Craig Revel Horwood has already revealed that this year’s ‘Strictly’ line-up has been confirmed, so either Chezza is fibbing or we’ll have to wait a bit longer for a Strictly-style skirt rip.

We still have a few weeks to find out exactly who will be donning their sequinned outfits and hitting the ‘Strictly’ dancefloor, but there have already been plenty of big names thrown into the hat.

These include singer Louise Redknapp, daytime TV star Judge Rinder, presenter Angelica Bell, ‘Downton Abbey’ actress Michelle Dockery, singer Will Young, TV presenter Laura Whitmore, model Daisy Lowe and US singer Anastacia.

This year’s series will also be head judge Len Goodman’s last, after he confirmed he would be calling it a day after 12 years on the show.

Explaining his decision to quit, Len said: “In 2004, I was asked to take part in a brand new BBC Saturday night show and who would have thought me, old Len Goodman, would still be part of this amazing series more than 10 years on.

“This adventure began when I was 60 and now that I’ve reached my 70s, I’ve decided after this year it’s time to hand the role of Head Judge to someone else.

“It is an honour being part of the wonderful ‘Strictly Come Dancing’ family and I’m looking forward to my last series very much and to whatever comes next.”
