Piers Morgan has laid into Jennifer Aniston, telling her to “get a grip” after she broke down about her insecurities during an awards ceremony.

The former ‘Friends’ star was reduced to tears as she was asked if she’d ever woken up and not known who she was, as she handed out an award at the Giffoni Film Festival in Italy on Monday (25 July).

Jennifer emotionally told the crowd:

“There’s not enough fingers and toes in this entire room to count how many times that moment has happened to me. I mean, my gosh. We’re all human beings at the end of the day. Whether we’re a waitress or we’re a baker or we’re a student or whatever we are, at the end of the day you kind of hit walls and think, I kind of can’t go any farther. Or this is too much. My heart can’t take it. Or the pain is too great, or am I good enough? Can I, will I, survive? And, we just have to sort of somehow miraculously overcome. You just go, 'I can’t. Yes, I can. Yes, you can.'”

As footage of her speech was discussed on Tuesday’s edition of ‘Good Morning Britain’, Piers accused Jennifer of “self-wallowing”, claiming she had made her body a commodity.

“If it’s going to upset you, don’t put your body out there and do hundreds of magazine covers,” he said.

“You do have a choice. Nobody forced her to do naked magazine shoots.

“When you put your body out there like that, you’re making your body a commodity and everyone can have a slice of the pie.”

He continued: “Nobody has to post a picture on Instagram or Twitter or Facebook. Nobody in Hollywood is legally compelled to do naked magazine covers.

“If you choose to for those things you can’t go ‘Oh poor me’. Get a grip!

“Remember, half the world is starving. There are people out there who have no money, no mansion, no Ferrari, no handsome Hollywood husband like Jennifer. That’s my take on this. Get a grip, Jennifer,” he added.

Piers’ co-host Susanna Reid was slightly more sympathetic, telling him: “I think she is someone who is trapped by eternal judgement and she’s held to this standard on the way she looks.

“There will girls out there who put pictures on Instagram who can relate to Jennifer’s instagram. But I do get your point Piers, if you don’t want this, don’t post.”

Jennifer made headlines earlier this month when she penned an emotional Huffington Post blog tearing apart the media for its criticism of female celebrities.

“The objectification and scrutiny we put women through is absurd and disturbing,” she wrote.

“The way I am portrayed by the media is simply a reflection of how we see and portray women in general, measured against some warped standard of beauty.”

Stars including Cheryl Fernandez-Versini, Michelle Keegan, Melissa McCarthy and Chrissy Teigen also came out in support of her blog post, agreeing with her view of female objectification.
