Sky NewsMartin Brunt appeared to be channelling the spirit of Alan Partridge after he delivered a warning live on air that succeeded in being as bizarre as it was chilling.

The crime correspondent was reporting from a church in Britain on Thursday, referencing the recent tragedy in France which saw a priest murdered by ISIS terrorists.

Addressing the camera, a sombre Brunt announced: “The morning service began 20 minutes ago and there are no obvious signs of any security.

“In fact this sign at the church door says ‘everybody is welcome.’”

Stepping briefly into the building, Brunt returns and deadpans to the camera: “There are about a dozen worshippers in there and one priest. If I was a terrorist, I could’ve killed them all.”

The clip was quickly picked up and became the subject of ridicule and an accompanying Twitter debate as to whether Brunt had gone full Partridge or whether his delivery was more in the style of Chris Morris from Brass Eye
