Patient Dies After Ambulance Catches Fire At Naas Hospital In Kildare, Ireland

Two people have also been injured.

A patient has died after an ambulance caught fire outside a hospital A&E department.

The man was in the ambulance at the time and the department in Naas General Hospital in Kildare, Ireland, has been closed while police investigate.

A medics was also injured and is in intensive care with serious burns, TheJournal.ie reports.

Pictures showed authorities at the scene and smoke billowing out into the sky.

Patients are being diverted to other hospitals.

Ireland’s Health and Safety Executive said the A&E Department was “temporarily closed” and an investgiation was underway.

A spokesperson for the Garda told The Irish Mirror: “Gardaí in Naas and the HSE are investigating all the circumstances surrounding a fire that occurred in an ambulance at Naas General Hospital on the 22nd Sept 2016.

“The incident occurred at approx. 2pm at the A & E entrance to Naas General Hospital.

“A male patient was in the ambulance at the time of the fire and was pronounced dead at the scene. The area has been sealed off for a technical examination.
