The BBC failed its viewers in its coverage of the EU referendum, according to the corporation’s world affairs editor John Simpson.

Speaking to Huffington Post UK during the One Young World summit, the foreign correspondent said the Brexit result could have been different, had broadcasters and newspapers held politicians and campaigners to account.

A spokeswoman from the BBC said the broadcaster wanted to make clear that the views expressed by Simpson were not those of the BBC.

One Young World is a global movement that hosts an annual Summit to offer a platform for young leaders to network with peers from across the world, sharing ideas to develop solutions to address urgent global issues.
