Batman has come to the rescue of children scared by the ‘killer clowns’ craze sweeping the UK, reassuring youngsters that he is “taking care of it”.

Cumbria Superheroes is behind the attempt to reassure “scared” children and posted a video from Batman on its Facebook page.

In the video the superhero addresses “scared and affected” children and challenges prankster clowns to turn their attentions to him: “As for you clowns, you want to scare someone, why don’t you scare me.”

The local costume shop also shared a picture of Batman seemingly chasing a clown through the night.

The company told the Evening Standard that the costumed man was not a vigilante, he was simply trying to reassure local children.

BBC Cumbria shared a screenshot of an image apparently from a local child who was comforted after hearing that “Batman” had caught the clown.

It says: “Hi Batman, my name is xxx. I have been scared of this clown situation (school told us about it yesterday).

“I seen on my mammy fb [Facebook] that you caught the clown. This means I can go to school and not be scared, thank you for your efforts”

Hundreds of incidents involving ‘killer clowns’ have been reported to police across the UK, leading to several arrests.

It has also led to the Russian Embassy issuing a warning to its citizens to be aware of the craze.
