‘Coronation Street’ bosses are reportedly worried filming could be thrown into disarray, over the construction of a new tramline near the soap’s Manchester studios.
Plans outlined for the new Trafford Centre Metrolink have revealed it will run past the ‘Corrie’ set, with show bosses worried the noise created by the tram, as well as speaker announcements, could impact filming.
The Manchester Evening News reported they’ve taken up the matter with Transport Secretary Chris Grayling, also insisting they weren’t aware of the proposed plans when they moved to the new studios in 2013.
However, it seems their grievances have not influenced the plans, which are set to go ahead with the original route.
An ITV spokesperson has said in response (via Digital Spy): “We are disappointed that the Secretary of State has greenlit the new Trafford Park tram route despite the fact there was a viable approved alternative route.
“The order includes a number of specific planning conditions intended to address our concerns which we will now study in detail.”
‘Corrie’ moved to its current set at MediaCityUK in Salford in 2013, having previously filmed at Granada Studios for decades prior.
This isn’t the first time the new set has faced issues though, and earlier this year, it was claimed the cast and crew were being “terrorised” by seagulls.
‘Corrie’ fans are in for an exciting week, with two of the show’s central families - that’d be the Barlows and the Platts - about to take centre stage, in storylines that could change them forever.
