‘Coronation Street’ Airs HUGE Shock Explosion, Which Is Set To Change Weatherfield Forever

But what's next for the residents of Weatherfield?

Coronation Street’s Super Soap Week ended - literally - with a bang on Friday (21 October), as David Platt’s car exploded in the middle of the street.

A number of lives were left hanging in the balance, following the accident, which took place when David swerved in an attempt to avoid running over his daughter Lily, who had walked into the road.

While David managed to escape the wreckage reasonably quickly, Lily and Gary Windass - who had jumped across the street in a bid to save the youngster - were trapped under the car.

The residents then came together to lift the vehicle and get them out, but when the explosion took place, Anna was hit by a piece of flying debris, that was still on fire.

Bosses worked hard to keep the exact details of the episode under wraps in the run-up to its transmission, and we have to admit - we were surprised to learn it’s Anna’s life that has now changed forever.

Shortly before the accident, Anna and Kevin Webster were celebrating, after deciding to move in together, and viewers will have to wait and see how the shock incident affects them both.

Anna wasn’t the only character in grave danger, as the blaze also smashed the windows of the Rovers Return, where a pregnant Michelle had gone to fetch help.
