If, like us, you’ve always marvelled at the sheer perfection of those cakes that Mary Berry and Paul Hollywood tuck into ahead of each week’s technical challenge on ‘The Great British Bake Off’, then we have a bit of an illusion to shatter.
Despite giving us all the impression that they spend hours making them behind the scenes, when they dig into the bakes they show off as examples, it’s actually the first time either judge has laid eyes on them.

Instead, ‘Bake Off’ bosses hire home economic experts to make them, while Mary and Paul get their hair and make-up done.
A show insider told The Sun On Sunday: “Mary and Paul have never made a single cake in the tent.
Love Productions confirmed the judges don’t actually make the cakes, despite setting the technical challenges themselves.
They said: “No, Paul and Mary don’t make the cakes. They never have. They are baked on the day and Paul and Mary could never do that.”
The revelation comes ahead of this week’s ‘Bake Off’ final, which is expected to attract 15 million viewers.
It will be the last time we’ll see Mel Giedroyc, Sue Perkins and Mary Berry inside the tent, following the decision of all three to stick with the BBC and not “follow the dough” to the show’s new home at Channel 4.
