Passers-by near the BBC’s Broadcasting House got a shock on Thursday (27 October) morning, as a funeral for ‘The Great British Bake Off’ was held outside the building.
Obviously the BBC wasn’t responsible for the stunt, which cheekily (albeit in the darkest way possible) poked fun at the fact the show’s time with the channel has come to an end.
In fact, it was those jokers over at the London Dungeon who orchestrated the event, which saw a hearse arriving at the building, complete with a coffin, and flowers spelling out ‘RIP GBBO’.
The flowers were then held up by faux pallbearers, while mourners clutching cake tins gathered behind the car.
And there we were thinking 2016 had served up all the bizarre surprises possible.
As avid ‘Bake Off’ fans will know though, there are still two BBC episodes of the show to come, as festive specials have been filmed.
It’s not yet been confirmed when they’ll be screened, but it will be the last time Paul Hollywood, Mary Berry, Mel Giedroyc and Sue Perkins will all be in the UK’s most famous tent together.
