Do you have a bit of a bug-bear with that 1993 ear-worm, ‘I’d Do Anything For Love (But I Won’t Do That)’? The song that lasts a full five and a half minutes on the radio, helpfully extending to 12 minutes on the album version?

Well, turns out you’re not alone - the master behind it does too.

Veteran rocker Meat Loaf was having a chat with BUILD London yesterday, alongside Andrew Polec, the young singer who’ll be belting out the big tunes of Meat Loaf’s life in the forthcoming ‘Jim Steinman’s Bat Out Of Hell: The Musical’.

When Andrew was asked to name his favourite Meat Loaf song, without hesitation he named the latter’s biggest ever smash hit, which went platinum in the US, went to number one in 28 countries, and won the artist a Grammy Award for Best Rock Vocal Performance.

You’d think this would be a dead cert for Meat Loaf, but not so much, it transpired. Hear his explanation above...

Meat Loaf was in London to support the launch of the musical, which he said was a dream come true after a 50-year collaboration with Jim Steinman, the producer who channelled his distinct talents to unique effect on the ‘Bat Out Of Hell’ albums and hits including ‘Dead Ringer For Love’, ‘Two Out Of Three Ain’t Bad’ and ‘Paradise By The Dashboard Light’.

During the same chat, Meat Loaf revealed that, despite what the press would have us think and despite lawsuits between the two, he had only fallen out with Jim Steinman once in 50 years - although on that occasion, he did turn over the piano, much to the producer’s surprise.
