The Mobos have been forced to issue an apology, after accidentally giving an award to the wrong artist in Friday night’s (4 November) ceremony.
Organisers have blamed “human error” for the blunder, which saw WSTRN being given an award for Best Song instead of actual winners Abra Cadabra and Krept and Konan, for their collaboration ‘Robbery’.
In a statement posted on Twitter shortly after the mistake occurred, a statement from production company Done And Dusted said: “In over 20 years of live TV, we’ve never made a mistake like this, but due to human error the wrong winner for Best Song was announced tonight.”
The show - held at Glasgow’s SSE Hydro Arena - was being aired live on ITV2 at the time, meaning the blunder did make it to homes around the nation, but thankfully the rest of the evening went off without a hitch.
And fortunately, it wasn’t all bad news for WSTRN - while their Best Song victory might have been short-lived, they still managed to bag the Best Newcomer title, which in the past has gone to acts like Tinie Tempah, Jessie J and Craig David.
Craig was among the winners at this year’s ceremony, taking home Best Male over fellow nominees like Kano, Stormzy and Mercury Prize winner Skepta.
Lady Leshurr was named Best Female, while the coveted Best Album gong went to Kano’s ‘Made In The Manor’.
The night also featured performances from stars including Laura Mvula, Craig David, Chase & Status and Clean Bandit, who gave a rendition of their new single, ‘Rockabye’.
