I'm A Celebrity's Joel Dommett Wins Viewers Over In 'Total Ascent' Bushtucker Trial

"I'm here because I’m scared of heights and the word ‘ascent’ is in the title."

‘I’m A Celebrity’ star Joel Dommett won praise from viewers on Thursday (17 November), as he tackled his biggest fear in the latest Bushtucker Trial.

Prior to entering the jungle, the comedian confessed that his biggest fear was heights, so it was no surprise when the public chose him to take part in the ‘Total Ascent’ task.

The challenge - climbing up a 100ft tower while setting off 10 flares, each one earning a meal for Joel and his campmates - was simple enough… unless you have a crippling fear of heights, that is.

However, he was able to put that aside in the moment and face his phobia, which he did totally successfully, earning an impressive 10 meals for the team, even managing to set off the last two flares with just two seconds of his allotted 10 minutes left.

He said afterwards: “I’m so happy, I feel like Sandra Bullock at the end of ‘Gravity’, I’m so happy to make everyone proud.”

‘I’m A Celebrity’ fans also got behind Joel after seeing him taking on his fear so successfully, showering him in praise on social media.

So far, this year’s celebrities have a brilliant track record when it comes to Bushtucker Trials, with the team bagging 10 stars with their first challenge, the ‘Tomb Of Torment’ earlier this week.

Following this, Scarlett Moffatt and Carol Vorderman took on Scary Berry’s ‘Big Bush Bake Off’ trial, and managed to take back nine meals to camp by chowing down on a string of disgusting jungle delicacies.

‘I’m A Celebrity’ continues on Friday (18 November) at 9pm on ITV.
