’EastEnders’ bosses have teased the drama ahead in Walford this Christmas, with the first few spoilers from this year’s festive episodes - and it seems there isn’t going much in the way of Yuletide cheer in Albert Square.
First and foremost, there’s a shock in store for the Beales and the Brannings when a ghost from the past returns to ruin their Christmas.
Yes that’s right, Max Branning is back... and he’s out for revenge.
Following a fleeting appearance earlier this year, Jake Wood’s character is back on the Square, following his release from prison for being wrongly convicted of Lucy Beale’s murder.
This can only spell trouble for Ian and Jane Beale, who allowed Max to take the heat for Lucy’s death to protect their son Bobby, who was his sister’s real killer.
Lauren Branning will also have some questions to answer, having been complicit in the cover up.
Meanwhile, Phil Mitchell’s health continues to deteriorate, as his cirrhosis takes hold.
As his time begins to run out, Sharon and the rest of the Mitchell clan are forced to face the prospect that this Christmas could be Phil’s last.
Over at the Carters’, newlywed Lee struggles with the burden of his mounting secrets.
Will he finally confront the consequences of his actions? Or will his guilty conscience finally push him over the edge?
It has also been heavily rumoured Ronnie and Roxy Mitchell will be killed off over the festive period, as both Samantha Womack and Rita Simons are leaving their roles after almost a decade.
However, bosses are yet to confirm how and when exactly the pair will bow out.
