As increasingly odd things continue to happen in plain sight, a double decker bus turned itself into a raging inferno in Kingston on Friday.

The fire broke out just after 9am in Market Place, with London Fire Brigade pithily remarking it was “well alight” as two crews arrived at the scene.

The driver had left the bus before the brigade arrived and was treated at the scene for smoke inhalation by the London Ambulance Service, before being taken to hospital.

The blaze was under control within an hour, with a further two crews from Kingston assisting.

Kingston Police tweeted images of the flaming bus, warning people to stay away from the area.

No one was injured and the force managed to keep its sense of humour intact, tweeting a picture of the charred vehicle as a worker spread sand across the road.

“Pretty sure this is going to affect rush hour now so plan your journey – and no we haven’t built sand castles… yet.”
