Yorkshire Tea Takes On Twitter Troll… And Turns Him Into A Friend

'So basically the only thing Yorkshire about your tea is the packaging that has Yorkshire written on it?'

Would be Twitter trolls take note – if you don’t do your research you could end up looking pretty foolish.

The official account for Yorkshire Tea found itself drawn into absurd row with one customer who took it upon himself to haughtily ask: “Can you tell me which part of great Yorkshire you actually grow your tea leaves in that are used in great Yorkshire tea?”

“Yes of course. We grow it in our massive hydroponic tea plantation two miles beneath the surface of Dewsbury,” came the sardonic reply from the customer service team.

But the sarcasm was evidentially lost on @2spikywwefans, who quickly pounced, pointing out that Yorkshire Tea officially ADMITS its tea is grown solely from overseas Rainforest Alliance Certified farms.

“Oh no. You caught us read handed,” came the weary reply.

Sensing victory, @2spikywwefans crowed “so basically the only thing Yorkshire about your tea is the packaging that has Yorkshire written on it?” Adding three crying emoji icons for good measure.

What followed was a deluge of abuse at “Yorkshire shitty tea”, allegations of false advertising and an attempt to brand it “a company full of lies.”

Being a public forum, circling Twitter users leapt in to proffer similarly ridiculous complaints...

Following hours of japes at @2spikywwefans’s expense, Yorkshire Tea managed to placate their dissatisfied customer and even elicit a public apology from him. Ah.

For the uninitiated, the British climate is not suitable for growing tea, but in recent years the warmer climes of Cornwall have led to the Tregothnan Estate producing the first tea ever to be grown in British soil, Tea Laden explains.
