A blistering start to the Bank Holiday weekend will be shattered by heavy showers, as Brits encounter exceptional rainfall beginning as early as tonight.

Rain will strike across many parts of Britain from Friday night, beginning in Northern Ireland, and well into Sunday across southern and central parts.

A spokesperson from the Met Office told HuffPost that rainfall will be heavy, with some weather warnings in place as a result.

The spokesperson said: “We’ve had 29 degrees in Scotland, we have had some late maximums so this could increase tonight.

“There’s a front out to the west that is going to move into the UK tonight. Northern Ireland will see the first bit of rainfall this evening.

“Showers are expected, and these will be heavy at times, moving into the south west and they will move into central and southern parts into the north east tomorrow.

“Everywhere from Cornwall through to the north east will see showers.

“We have issued weather warnings for western Scotland and Northern Ireland.

“Still sunshine to be had in the south, however. Potentially temperatures will reach 27 degrees Celsius in Scotland, 25c in Leeds with 28 or 29c in London.

“Beyond Saturday into Sunday, there will still be cloud around in some parts of Scotland but for the south there will be some really quite intense showers moving into southern parts of England.

“There will be some sunny spells on Sunday with temperatures around 18c or 19c in Scotland, 25c in London.

“Showers will move north eastwards into Monday and clear the British Isles by lunchtime on Monday. There is no certainty everyone will see these showers, but where they do they will be heavy.

“As the showers move on, Monday becomes drier with temperatures a bit cooler at around 14c or 15c in Scotland, 22c in London.”
