Unique Baby Names: Parents Divided Over Mum Who Asks Whether 'Atlas' Is An Acceptable Name

'Is this a good name?' ๐ŸŒŽ

Parents are debating whether or not it is โ€œacceptableโ€ to call a baby Atlas.

The discussion kicked off after Mumsnet user idontknow54789 appealed for advice on whether others thought it was a good name.

โ€œPersonally I love it but not sure if itโ€™s an acceptable name,โ€ she wrote on the parenting forum on 4 August.

โ€œMy DM (mother) scoffed at it when my brother mentioned it a while ago so got me a bit worried in case we do decide on it.

โ€œThoughts? Does anyone know an Atlas?โ€

There have been 100 comments on the Mumsnet thread in four days - and parents were divided on whether they liked the name or not.

โ€œI love it, but wouldnโ€™t be brave enough to use it,โ€ one person wrote.

Another commented: โ€œIโ€™ve heard of two people recently having an Atlas and itโ€™s just so them.โ€

And another wrote: โ€œIf youโ€™re into mythology thereโ€™s nothing wrong with it, itโ€™s a very interesting story behind Atlas.โ€

โ€œI really like Atlas,โ€ commented another. โ€œI also know adults called Stone and Brick (both British). In my opinion, Atlas is soft in comparison!โ€

However, as ever when it comes to the topic of baby names, some disagreed.

โ€œWhy would you do that to a poor child?โ€ one person wrote. โ€œItโ€™s truly awful.โ€

Another wrote: โ€œNooooooo please donโ€™t do it. Heโ€™ll have the piss taken out of him.โ€

One person pointed out: โ€œI wouldnโ€™t name a child something they will use at school (Atlas, Dictionary or Compass).โ€

But one mum summed up the baby name debate quite simply, telling the mum: โ€œDonโ€™t let othersโ€™ opinions put you off if you love a name.โ€
