Born in Stockton-on-Tees, journalist-turned-PR man Johnson runs PR and social media agency Umpf in Leeds.

Initially a staff writer on aviation titles such as Commuter World and Inflight Entertainment (Shephard Press), he switched to the legal profession writing – and then freelancing – for the European Legal 500, Legal Business and The In-house Lawyer (all part of the Legalease stable).

When the excitement of aviation and law became too much, he freelanced for lads’ mags including Maxim and Bizarre before turning to PR in the mid-90s.

He has worked in-house, at a full-service agency and has run two PR companies. Married with one daughter, he is a lifelong fan and season ticket holder at Middlesbrough FC.
