Mother's Day Pamper at Home

Firstly, go through all of your Mum's beauty products and see what you can use. If your Mum is like mine she'll have products bought as gifts that she just never gets around to using- just make sure they're still in date. Do this before Mother's Day to allow time to buy anything you need.

Mother's Day is all about celebrating how wonderful our Mums are. What better way to show them we care than by pampering them in the comfort of their own home?

Here's my guide to a purse-friendly Mother's Day pamper:

Firstly, go through all of your Mum's beauty products and see what you can use. If your Mum is like mine she'll have products bought as gifts that she just never gets around to using- just make sure they're still in date. Do this before Mother's Day to allow time to buy anything you need.

Start by cleansing the skin; warm some cleanser in your hands and massage up the face, starting at the base of the neck and massaging in circular motions. Remove with a warm flannel. Repeat the cleansing process.

Next you want to gently exfoliate the skin. You can do this with a Dermaflannel, facial exfoliator or for a fruity treat; peel the skin from a papaya*, rub the fleshy part over the skin and leave for 5 minutes. The enzymes in the papaya will help to gently loosen the dead skin cells. Don't forget to treat her hands too; you can use the same products that you use on the face for the hands. *If you or your Mother are allergic to latex avoid the papaya as this is where latex comes from.

Then use an oil to massage in to the face and hands. If you don't have a specific massage oil I'd recommend pure coconut oil; it not only has a lovely smell but it won't aggravate any skin complaints as it's not being left on the skin. You can also use it as a hair conditioner if your Mum doesn't mind getting oily. Take your time to gently and lovingly massage your Mother's skin being careful not to drag or pull.

Follow with a masque. If you don't have one, mash up a ripe avocado and apply to the face and neck but I would recommend investing in a masque. There are so many fantastic masques on the market which can really make a big difference to the condition and appearance of the skin.

If the masque you're using is a non-setting masque, run your Mum a relaxing bath; the heat from the bath can help the masque to penetrate deeper in to the skin. Once your Mum has finished she can either rinse off the masque herself with clean, cool water or remove with a clean, warm flannel. Follow with a serum and/or moisturiser and the facial is complete.

If you have children they may like to get involved. My 5 year old loves to massage cream in to her Nanna's hand. While you're performing the facial why not allow the children to give the hand massage?

For a more professional approach to facial massage take a look on youtube, there are some fantastic video guides to facials.

Have a lovely Mother's Day fellow Mummies!
