British journalist and avid consumer of history Andrew Marr is releasing a new book titled ‘A History of the World' (released 27th September) The book will coincide with an 8 part BBC television series of the same title starting on the 23 September.

Dating all the way back 70,000 years, A History of the World takes readers from our origins in Africa, through global colonization, the emergence of farming, of religion and philosophy; from the rise of empires, brutal wars, revolutions and astonishing discoveries and inventions. A ferociously ambitious project, but an eminently important one!

If we know one thing, we know wars are dreadful, the worst that can happen to mankind. Look at the massacres in today's Syria, the roadside bombs in Afghanistan, the child soldiers in Africa. Remember the terrible world wars of the last century.
