Anna Nekaris

Professor of Anthropology and MSc course tutor at Oxford Brookes University

In addition to her work for Oxford Brookes University, Professor Nekaris is the Director of the Leverhulme Trust Little Fireface Project.

Little Fireface is the Sundanese word for slow loris, small nocturnal primates, five species of which are found from India to the Philippines.

All species are not only hugely threatened by habitat loss, but their populations are being decimated due to their popularity in both traditional medicine and pet trades.

The aim of Little Fireface Project is thus to save the slow loris through ecology, education and empowerment. With field studies currently running in Cambodia, India and Indonesia, and education connecting these habitat countries also to loris range country Singapore and to classrooms in the UK, we hope to curtail the extinction of this unique primate.
