Barbara Njau

Senior Reporter and Markets Editor of 'Foreign Direct Investment' (fDi) Magazine

Barbara Njau is a Kenyan-born and UK-based journalist, speaker and author. In addition to writing on foreign direct investment issues in emerging markets across Africa, Asia and the Middle East for fDi Magazine, she has spoken widely on this topic in business and industry events in several countries, including the UK, Malaysia, Kenya, Tunisia, and the United Arab Emirates. She has also been invited to speak in her personal capacity in a host of events, including at the House of Lords in the UK, and at various student and professional-run initiatives such as Elevation Networks and Inspire You in the UK.

Barbara Njau’s work at fDi Magazine has taken her to over 30 countries across her specialist markets, including Morocco, Tunisia, Gabon, South Africa, the UAE, Japan and Myanmar, and she has interviewed a host of leading policy makers and multinational executives including the Presidents of Gabon and Malaysia, the CEOs of Qatar Airways and DHL Express and Africa Finance Corporation.

Barbara Njau’s e-book, ‘Building BRICs: The New Scramble for Africa’ draws on her work across sub-Saharan Africa, and she discusses how leading corporations from Brazil, Russia, India and China are transforming Africa’s investment landscape and bringing with them new business opportunities across the continent.

Prior to joining fDi Magazine, Barbara used to work for ‘Citizens Governance Initiatives’ (CGI), which is a non-governmental organisation (NGO) that is based in Yaounde, Cameroon. She also worked at ‘Africa, Governance, Monitoring and Advocacy Project’ (AfriMAP) which is part of the Open Society Initiative at its office in Dakar, Senegal.

Barbara holds a degree in Politics from the Univeristy of Nottingham in the UK and Institut d’Etudes Politiques de Paris (Sciences Po, Paris) in France.
