A year ago I came back to work after my first baby and took up a new job as MD of the company where I’ve worked for the last decade. I work in a great industry with brilliant people, have a lovely, supportive husband and a great boss. How hard can it be, I thought? What a naïve idiot. As any working parent knows, the emotional, physical and logistical challenges of juggling a baby with a demanding job can be mind blowing. Every day feels like some kind of Bear Grylls survival challenge which frequently ends in either tears or wine or both. I decided it didn’t need to be so hard and have set about trying to make things a little easier for the parents in our company…baby steps as it were. I’m a passionate advocate for gender equality, flexible working (for everyone, not just parents) and shared parental leave. My goal? That by the time my little girl has her own family, it will be just that bit easier to work and have a family and the responsibility will be shared.
