Charly Young

Founder of The Girls' Network and teacher.

Charly Young is Director and Co-founder of The Girls’ Network – an award-winning charity that matches girls from low-income communities across the UK with a female mentor, in order to open networks and opportunities that the girls would otherwise not have access to.

Charly trained as a secondary school teacher with Teach First in 2011, teaching Geography and Citizenship teacher at a school in North West London.

Prior to this, she worked in the Education team at the RSA with a focus on the youth engagement in their Area Based Curriculum. She developed tools to map the social networks of young people and supported in the evaluation and development of the project.

The Girls’ Network won the Teach First Innovation Award in 2013 and was recently recognised at the Women of the Year Awards as one of the charities that the foundation was supporting. Charly and Becca were also both listed on the Independent on Sunday’s Happy List 2014.

Charly has spoken at various conferences and events, including the 2014 ASGS annual conference and TEDx Youth. She has written articles for publications including the Guardian and has been approached by BBC Radio 4 and Radio 5 Live to contribute to discussions on education and girls.
