Dalia Ben-Galim

Director of Policy, Gingerbread

Dalia is the Director of Policy at Gingerbread, the charity for single parent families.

She joined Gingerbread in November 2015. Previously she was the Associate Director at IPPR, where she led the think tank's work on families, communities and employment, and has written extensively on these issues.

Prior to that, she taught social policy at the University of Oxford and held research posts at the LSE. Dalia holds a PhD in social policy from the University of Oxford. She completed her undergraduate work at the University of Melbourne. Dalia also volunteers for her local youth justice team.

An experienced media performer with appearances on Newsnight, Sky News, Channel 4 and the BBC, Dalia also speaks regularly at a variety of conferences on a range of social policy issues both in the UK and abroad.

The Child Maintenance Service Is Putting Domestic Abuse Survivors At Risk

When a woman (and it usually is a woman) escapes domestic abuse, few would disagree that we should do all we can to make them safe and help them to rebuild their lives, out of the reaches of their abusers. Yet Gingerbread and Women's Aid have discovered that a new government service is suggesting survivors make contact with their abuser, share personal information with them and is potentially putting abusers in a position of financial control.

Thousands of Single Parents Set to Miss Out Under Childcare Bill

There's considerable support across parliament to make certain groups exempt in exceptional circumstances, such as the victims of domestic violence, and we'd like to see the same for those who are in training and attempting to upskill in order to move into employment. This means exempting single parents from the 16-hour commitment.
