Dr Gina Radford

Deputy Chief Medical Officer for England

Dr Gina Radford qualified in medicine at the Royal Free Hospital. After training as a GP she became a Director of Public Health in South West Devon. She then moved to the Department of Health (DH) as Head of the Public Health Development Unit where, amongst other things, she was responsible for the establishment of NICE. Later, she led the DH response to the Shipman Inquiry, and represented the Chief Medical Officer on the World Health Organization’s Western Pacific Regional Committee. Until recently, Dr Radford was Chair of one of the NICE Public Health Advisory Committees.
In 2013, Dr Radford helped lead nationally on the public health response to Ebola and, in January 2015, was appointed as Deputy Chief Medical Officer for England.

Outside work, Gina Radford is a licensed Lay Minister in the Church of England, and is training to be ordained.
