When I read that Lewisham, my home borough, had been ranked the most violent place in Britain, my first reaction was embarrassment - my university friends from all over the world and the UK that I had been trying to convince of Lewisham's greatness would now be laughing in my face.
When John Lewis decided to take on 'hobo chic' and star a bearded man for their new menswear range, it was perhaps the most on trend action the old British traditionalist giant has taken. Whether it is an Autolycus style or chin curtain, facial hair is rearing its bristly head up and down the country.
I wasn't stupid enough to believe it was real, I knew this was an elite group of people with teams of prodding, poking and digital enhancement. But it was still an elite I wanted to join. It went way beyond the clothes, it was a very rigid ideal the fashion industry was trying to sell.
