Georgy Jamieson

Mother, blogger and writer just making it up as I go along!

I'm a Random kind of woman in a Random kind of world so when you read the blog you'll find out all about me, the boy, hubby and Oscar the cat as we stumble about life trying to do the best we can! After my redundancy I started my own business By George! doing copywriting, PR, social media and business blogs. I am also a broadcaster and I am currently researching a book on the late night comedy cabaret scene in 60's London.

The One With the A Word

The boy has been diagnosed with high functioning autism. High functioning means he's the lower end of the autistic spectrum and more able to function in everyday society.

The One With the Little Victories

His school report was warm, genuine and full of love. No he's not top of the class but he's gaining confidence everyday. It was a joy to read a report on the boy from people who actually know him and haven't just come to observe him, then think they can tell me all about him after half an hour.

The One With the Rehearsal

The other night I went and watched the theatre group I belong to rehearse for their forthcoming production of Fawlty Towers. I haven't acted since autumn 2013 and although it's not unusual for me to have a break from theatre for a while, this is probably the longest I've been gone from it.

The One With The Made Up Meals

If I do make something from a recipe book I can't help 'tinkering' with it until eventually it's beyond all recognition of the original. I rarely look at a cookbook anyway, unless it's for the proportions for Yorkshire puddings; for some reason I always have to look that up, or buy Aunt Bessie's, who is known in this house as the patron saint of the roast dinners.

The One With the C Word

Today's activity, in a seemingly never ending stream of Christmas fun, was the school fair and Santa was coming. This caused much excitement from the boy, who has been talking about Christmas since May. I'm not entirely sure he's ever really got over Christmas finishing last year to be honest.

The One With the First Week Back

Don't get me wrong, he loved being at home, seeing both sets of grandparents, trips to the zoo and the park, going bowling with some of his NCT mates, having play dates with Lemon Cake Boy and Vintage Songstress and her lad and finishing the week with a Halloween tea party and trick or treating.

The One With Half Term

So we've made it to half term! We've had no tears or major tantrums and the boy seems to be enjoying himself. He is however getting tired and I fear the novelty may be wearing off. He keeps asking, "Where am I going today?" When I answer "School darling", he looks forlorn and exclaims "What again? I have been to school a lot you know."

The One with the Great British Bake Off

How in the name of iced fingers do they not eff and jeff like a docker? I would be effing and blinding with the best of them when it all went Pete Tong or I burnt myself on a Swiss roll tin or someone left my ice cream out of the freezer!

The One With the Jolly Phonics

You know in my last blog I said we've all started school? Well we really have! It would appear that I have to totally re-learn how to read.

The One Where We Start School

Starting school has been discussed, analysed and mulled over since kids first went into education. There are articles, blog posts, forums and books on the subject. You can disappear up your own bum reading them all - believe me over the summer I nearly did.

The One With the Impressions

However, when we were waiting to get back onto the little Thomas train that linked one part of the park to another (and boy did we go up and down on that train a lot that day), a man with a thick Scottish brogue called his little boy to come closer to him. It wasn't the full Glaswegian but it was pretty strong as accents go.

The One With the Transition Meeting

A week or so ago the boy had the second of his trial mornings at his new school, this time with a packed lunch (the week before it was a proper school dinner - and by proper I mean pizza, chips and spaghetti hoops - an eclectic mix). He loved it and has talked of little else but, 'When can I go to my new school?' and 'When can I go back and see my new teacher?'

The One With the Outside and the Summer

Me and hot weather don't get on. And before you all start I know I shouldn't complain because it's lovely to see the sun... blah..blah..blah.. and we don't get enough of it... etc... etc... and we need to make the most of it... but the truth is... I don't like it.

The One Up the Rec

On Wednesday me and the boy had a day at home together, which involved nothing more strenuous than a bit of light play-doh work, some CBeebies, making a picture for daddy with glitter glue and pom-poms and endless re-enactments of Thomas the Tank Engine stories.

The One Where I've Been Away

It's been exactly 6 months since I last blogged. Most remiss of me - I'm sorry. You probably all have forgotten who I am by now.

The One With the Mental Health

Telling people I have depression and I take medication for it has been one of the most liberating things I've ever done. I refuse to hide in a corner. So I talk about it. Because talking about it helps me heal and it, hopefully, stops the rest of the world being embarrassed and treating mental health as something we don't mention.

The One With the CCTV and the Gin

The drinks aisle has CCTV cameras and TV screens for security and there we were, up on the big screen, having a lovely Mummy and boy hug, with me clutching a bottle of cheap, own brand gin in my hand and waving it at the camera like a drunk Aunt at a wedding, doing the bending down dance with a toddler.

The One with Thomas The Tank Engine and Something Nasty

As you know potty training has finally gone into full swing here in the Randomhousehold. The boy has decided he will now do wees' on the potty but, to quote Pirate Pete's potty book, "he's finding doing a poo much harder".

The One With Paddington Bear

The boy is obsessed with Paddington. We went to the cinema to see the film and then on holiday recently he spent his pocket money on a toy Paddington bear. He's even developed a taste for marmalade sandwiches.
