Following her decision to have a voluntary double mastectomy Gill Roberts has been working with Macmillan Cancer Support and BBC EastEnders to help research a cancer storyline about choosing whether or not to have breast reconstruction and has appeared as a body double in the programme. She has set up a support group, Flat Friends, where women who have gone through a similar experience can share their thoughts and advice.
