Harry Benson

Research Director, Marriage Foundation

“Leading champion of marriage and relationship education”

Former Navy pilot turned stockbroker, Harry Benson has spent the last fifteen years researching, writing and teaching about marriage and family. After gaining a first class degree in psychology, he founded a Bristol charity and taught hundreds of relationship courses to thousands of couples. He is also the author and originator of Let’s Stick Together, a pioneering relationship book and programme for new parents in post-natal clinics and Surestart centres, evaluated by the Department for Education. His research papers on marriage and family breakdown have made front page news and his findings are regularly cited by media and politicians. He also co-authored influential family policy papers for the Centre for Social Justice.

He is a vocal and unashamed champion of marriage because the research tells him that marriage matters. He has written a stream of research papers and articles for Marriage Foundation, a charity launched in 2012 by leading UK family judge Sir Paul Coleridge and supported by dozens of other family lawyers and judges. The aim of the Foundation is to be a voice for marriage. As Research Director, Harry Benson appears regularly in local and national media.

Harry has also written two military books, drawing on his experience as a pilot. The first - and bestseller - " SCRAM!” is a gripping first hand account of the helicopter war in the Falklands. In 2015, he published his first novel " Distinguished Service" a fast moving adventure story involving modern Navy pilots and set in Somerset and Somalia!

Harry is married to Kate and lives in Somerset. Surviving a marital crisis in the mid-1990s, they have now been married for 30 years. They have six children aged twelve to twenty four, the oldest of whom is now married.
