Her first degree was English literature and language at Birmingham
University, although she spent far more time slaving over a hot iMac as
News Editor of the student paper than she ever did in the library.
She has interned at various local, regional and national titles, as well
as business-to-business publications. Although she makes a truly excellent cup of tea, Helen is now beginning the search for gainful employment as a writer.
It was announced on Thursday that Research in Motion, the company responsible for bestowing on the general public the once-almighty BlackBerry, is to hold up its white flag and give up competing with Apple's iPhone and the Android platform for consumer sales.
The problems within the higher education system are multiple, and these need to be considered if we are to expect students to willingly put themselves in three times more debt. The pool of 18-year-old with the financial support to go to university on a whim without a concern for its relative value will be vastly reduced.
