If you're travelling to London and want to stay in a fantastic five star hotel, choose one of my favourite London hotels mentioned below.

The Connaught, Mayfair

The Connaught is one of London's most elegant hotels, with wodnerful restaurant and bar offerings.

Hélène Darroze at The Connaught offers French fine dining with two Michelin stars, and The Coburg Bar and The Connaught Bar could both hold the title of one of the best bars in London.

Claridge's, Mayfair

Claridge's is a shining example of the grace of art deco and is, perhaps, London's most recognisable hotel.

It oozes history from every corner with a bustling lobby area, the setting for one of London's most grand afternoon tea settings.

The Corinthia Hotel

The Corinthia hotel is located near The Embankment and Trafalgar Square and is one of London's best new five star hotels.

The lobby features a stunning chandelier made from Baccarat crystal, the rooms are large and stylish, and it features possibly the best spa in London, spread over three floors.

The Langham, Fitzrovia

The Langham is discreetly located a stone's throw from Oxford Circus, but feels like a haven from the busy streets nearby.

Known for its afternoon tea in The Palm Court, excellent cocktails at the stylish Artesian Bar and for its restaurant from the Roux family, The Langham is up there with the best 5 star hotels in London.

What a year 2012 has been for new restaurants in London - it often felt like there was a new opening every day! But with a restaurant scene as diverse, accomplished and ever-changing as London, only the very best will become firm favourites. Here are my thoughts on London's best new restaurants of 2012.

10 Greek Street, Soho

As its name suggests, 10 Greek Street is located at 10 Greek Street in Soho, and behind an unassuming entrance is a relaxed but buzzy restaurant with excellent cooking and a menu full of imaginative dishes that change regularly.

Bookings are taken for lunch but dinner is for walk-ins only, making 10 Greek Street a contender for one of London's best no booking restaurants.

Duck & Waffle, The City

Duck and Waffle sits on the 40th floor of Heron Tower in the City. The restaurant serves European and British influenced cuisine 24 hours per day, 7 days per week. Breakfast is served from 6am to 11am with dishes such as Foie Gras 'All Day Breakfast' and Duck & Waffle with fried duck egg and mustard maple syrup.

The restaurant has a capacity of 98 with floor-to-ceiling windows, an open kitchen, a 24-seat chef bar and a private dining room. With incredible views of London and food to match, this must surely be a contender for one of the best new restaurants in London?

Brasserie Zedel, Soho

Following the success of The Delaunay, Chris Corbin and Jeremy King launched Brasserie Zedel in Soho towards the end of June 2012. Brasserie Zedel is a large, bustling Parisian brasserie transported to the heart of London, which is open throughout the day, offering great value with remarkably low prices.

The restaurant has been designed by David Collins Studio in the Art Deco tradition, which is a vast, stunning dining room, discreetly hidden on the lower ground floor in the heart of the West End. The restaurant has over 200 covers, half of which are reserved for walk-ins so don't be disappointed if the restaurant appears to be fully booked.

Bubbledogs, Fitzrovia

Bubbledogs opened in July on Charlotte Street in Fitzrovia, with James Knappett (previously of The Ledbury, Noma and Marcus Wareing at the Berkeley, among others) as head chef and Sandia Chang (who has worked at The Berkeley, Noma and Per Se) as General Manager.

Bubbledogs serves hot dogs and grower Champagne. Yes,that's right: hotdogs and champagnes. The restaurant has a separate 'Kitchen Table' in the back of the restaurant where the chef can showcase his real talent.

Chrysan, The City

The Hakkasan Group launched Chrysan Restaurant in The City behind Liverpool Street station. Chrysan is a Japanese restaurant in partnership with Japan's Michelin-starred chef, Yoshihiro Murata.

Chef Murata is the third generation chef patron of Kikunoi, a traditional Ryotei restaurant in Kyoto, which holds three Michelin stars. In addition to an extensive à la carte offering, Chrysan features a signature kaiseki menu for dinner, as well as a special bento set lunch.

There's also a bar named 'NeNe' which seats up to 30, offering a cocktail list and a menu of lighter dishes.

Caravan King's Cross, King's Cross

Caravan King's Cross, the second outpost of Caravan Restaurant on Exmouth Market, opened in King's Cross in August 2012, located in the Grade II-listed Granary Building, behind King's Cross Station and St Pancras International.

The interiors reflect the area's Victorian industrial heritage, which exudes a cool, current vibe with low hanging lighting, exposed brick work and reclaimed furniture.

The highlights on our visit were the small plates, including 'Goat's curd, nectarine, braised onion and pine nuts', with the nectarine working surprisingly well with the curd, and the 'Chorizo and butternut squash croquettes', which succeeded in being crisp on the outside and unbelievably smooth on the inside.

Ceviche, Soho

Ceviche Restaurant opened in Soho in early 2012, bringing fashionable Peruvian cuisine to London. The menu includes the Peruvian favourite Ceviche, salads with quinoa, hot Peruvian giant corn choclos, octopus BBQ anticuchos, beef saltados and a host of pisco based cocktails.

Ceviche makes a fun night out in Soho with a buzzy cocktail bar and varied, but light, Peruvian cuisine.

Dabbous, Fitzrovia

Dabbous restaurant and bar launched on Whitfield Street in Fitzrovia in late January 2012, the first solo venture from Ollie Dabbous, formerly of Michelin-starred Texture.

Spread over two levels, the restaurant has an industrial but organic design, with exposed brickwork, sheet metal and copper pipes offset by rustic candles and natural woods.

Dabbous is booked incredibly far in advance, but we would recommend visiting the bar for some drinks and to try out their bar menu, which includes an excellent steak sandwich. It also makes for a great venue for a private party, where you can sample some exquisite canapés.

Colbert, Sloane Square

Inspired by the great French pavement cafés, Colbert is an informal, neighbourhood restaurant at the heart of Sloane Square from Chris Corbin and Jeremy King (see Brasserie Zedel above). Colbert opens early for breakfast and continues to serve food and drinks throughout the day until post-theatre.

The Cube by Electrolux, Southbank

Although not strictly a permanent restaurant, but a temporary 6 month installation on top of Royal Festival Hall on the Southbank, The Cube by Electrolux has still been one of the most exciting dining options for Londoners throughout 2012.

Michelin starred chefs including Sat Bains, Claude Bosi and Tom Kitchin each took up residency at the Cube, showcasing a tasting menu of their best dishes accompanies by matching wines. The Cube runs until 31 December 2012.
Buddha-Bar London, Knightsbridge

Buddha-Bar arrived in London's Knightsbridge from 1 November. First established in Paris in 1996, Buddha-Bar London 'will blend Far Eastern cuisine with Western tastes and influences' offering a menu with Chinese, Japanese, Thai and other Eastern flavours. Buddha-Bar London is set over two floors with an excellent cocktail list and live DJs.
Reverend JW Simpson, Fitzrovia

An intimate space with the cocktail list focusing on Fizzes, Flips, Cobblers, Smashes and Sours, the drinks are mixed and served at the table.

The bar retains the original room dividers, wall coverings, flooring and tiles of the apartment that originally occupied the site, subtly exposing the former building's kitchen, bathroom, living room and bedroom.

Baroque, Mayfair

The latest venture from nightlife entrepreneur Gerry Calabrese, Baroque is located on the ground floor of the Playboy Club on Old Park Lane and claims to have the most extensive vintage Champagne list in Europe!
Having undergone an extensive refurbishment, the venue has been transformed into a sumptuous space with lavish colours, heavy drapes, Louis XIV chairs and antique mirrors. Baroque opened on 4 October.
I share my tips on how to make the most of a last minute mini break.

Save Time and be a VIP

Save time at the airport by arranging a VIP transfer who will meet and greet you, take your bags, whisk you past the check-in lines and security queues, depositing you safely by the gate or in the airport lounge. One-way prices can cost under £100 and you can even be flying on a low cost airline to use it.

Stay Close to Home

Sometimes you just want to get away from it all without really getting that far away at all - pick somewhere within an hour or two from home so you can jump in the car after work on a Friday night and be settled in by dinner time. (Coworth Park below is an excellent example).

You Don't Always Need to Plan

Gasp! A concierge telling you now to plan! While we would normally always recommend pre-planning and booking in advance, there are great offers to be had at very short notice. The best hotels get booked out far ahead, but there might well be a cancellation and you may be lucky to get a reduced rate.

Blag an Upgrade

Everyone loves an upgrade, especially at hotels - checking-in later in the day will help when the hotel will know about the day's cancellations and no-shows, and don't book the cheapest room category as that will decrease your chances.

If you have any connections at the hotel, get in touch, and it doesn't hurt to ask outright or mention that it's a special occasion.

Eat at the Latest Hotspot

If you want a table at the hottest restaurant that has been fully booked for weeks, try calling up just after lunch on the day before you want to dine, as restaurants call up all existing reservation to re-confirm the day before, so you may be lucky enough to grab a cancellation.

Secure the Best Table

Once you've made it inside, you're going to want the best table. The best advice is to be polite and well mannered (first impressions do count!) and mention that it's a special occasion - restaurants will want to make it special for you too. If you've spotted a table you like, ask for it - you don't get if you don't ask.

Read on for my guide to the best London has to offer for an important business lunch or meeting.

L'Anima, Liverpool Street

L'Anima offers contemporary Italian cuisine in elegant surroundings close to The City. With floor to ceiling glass windows and the white décor, the restaurant is dazzlingly bright and the food is equally good.

Corrigan's Mayfair

Corrigan's Mayfair has a well-made dining room built to last and a menu as timeless as they come, in stylish and glamorous surroundings. With a number of private dining rooms, Corrigan's is an excellent spot in Mayfair for a business lunch, whether in the main dining room or in greater privacy in one of the separate rooms.

Coq d'Argent, The City

Situated in the heart of the Square Mile, Coq d'Argent's restaurant serves modern French cuisine while the brasserie and terrace serve a lighter menu with more of a modern European hint. Coq d'Argent has an outdoor terrace and a large and rather beautiful garden terrace, with great views of some of London's most well known landmarks, including St Paul's Cathedral.

Tempo, Mayfair

Tempo offers contemporary Italian cuisine at decent prices in the heart of Mayfair with a cosy, relaxed and intimate feel. The menu is influenced by the chef's time in Sorrento and features cicchetti and many sharing dishes.

One of Tempo's most striking areas is the stylish first floor bar, with its large floor to ceiling windows overlooking Curzon Street, perfect for a business meeting if you don't have time for lunch downstairs.

Hawksmoor - Spitalfields, Covent Garden and The City

With three locations across London and a fourth one in the West End imminent, Hawksmoor is one of London's best steakhouses. The menus read like a meat eater's dream and they also have great bar areas should your lunch meeting continue into the evening.

Avenue Restaurant, St James's

Like many of the D&D Group's restaurants, Avenue is a big, table-clothed, classic, fine dining style of restaurant. In that lovely part of St James's towards Pall Mall, The décor is suited to the area, with food erring slightly on the masculine corporate side, with gutsy and strong flavours.

The Wolseley, Mayfair

The Wolseley has maintained its place as one of London's chicest destination, which remains popular with businessmen and fashionistas alike. The grand dining room is an impressive space and the location is ideal for those wanting something buzzier in the Mayfair area.

Galvin La Chapelle, Shoreditch

Galvin La Chapelle is the Galvin brothers' venture in St Botolph's Hall, a beautiful 19th century building close to Spitalfield Market. The fine dining restaurant is dark and romantic, but during the day makes a good spot for lunch in beautiful surroundings. The Galvin brothers also have a more casual all-day cafe with outdoor seating.

Lutyens, Fleet Street

Located in the former Reuters building on Fleet Street, Lutyens is unmistakably Conran and a good addition to an area without many good dining options for a business lunch or dinner. The restaurant includes a large bar with a charcuterie counter, a 130 seat restaurant and 4 private dining and meeting rooms.

Portal, Clerkenwell

Portal is a modern Portuguese restaurant and bar in the foodie haven of St John Street. Architecturally, the dining room is stunning: a glass conservatory set in amongst a listed brick courtyard with atmospheric and beautiful up-lighting creating a dramatic backdrop. Food is mainly Iberian-inspired and although not inexpensive, the quality of ingredients remains high throughout the menu and worth the price.

Green's Restaurants, The City

Green's Restaurant is quiet and suits the crowd - think bankers, but an older crowd. This is a sophisticated restaurant, and the menu doesn't try to reinvent the wheel, and all your most comforting British favourites are there.

This is a well-polished restaurant and perfect for the crowd it continues to attract every day. Not one for a youngster, but it's a relief to book into a restaurant with no surprises, no queues and simple, excellent quality produce and service.

The Grill at The Dorchester, Mayfair

The Grill at the Dorchester at the glamorous Dorchester Hotel on Park Lane has an illustrious culinary history and the menu places an emphasis on procuring high quality British ingredients, with classic British dishes such as grilled Dover sole holding court.

The Grill at The Dorchester manages to retain its sense of duty to its past whilst adapting to compete with an ever-changing and increasingly demanding London palate.

The Delaunay, Aldwych

The Delaunay sits on the corner of Drury Lane and Aldwych, and the restaurant is open seven days a week serving breakfast, afternoon tea, and à la carte lunch and dinner menus 'inspired by the grand cafés of Europe'. While dinner is a glamorous affair, it's a great spot for an unstuffy lunch that has the threat of lingering long into the afternoon.

Dean Street Townhouse, Soho

The Dean Street Townhouse is a boutique hotel and dining room from the Soho House Group. The restaurant service classic British cuisine from first thing in the morning until the early hours and it's a great place for a business breakfast or lunch in Soho, but make sure you clear your calendar for the rest of the afternoon, as lunch often merges into dinner here.

Benares Restaurant, Mayfair

London has many excellent Indian restaurants, and one of the best is Benares on Berkeley Square in Mayfair. Benares is famous for matching wines with Indian food to bring out the flavours and spices. If you have a group of people, book the Chef's Table where you can watch the chefs cook in the kitchen in front of you. Wash it all down with one of their signature passion fruit martinis - you'll never want to leave.

The Principality of Monaco is one of those mythical places that has featured as a necessary stopover in the summer months for movie stars, captains of industry and royalty alike. It is a place to be seen, to wear your best outfits and to put it all on black at the casino.

Although Monaco's busiest times and biggest parties take place on the weekend of the Grand Prix in May, my visit the following week did not reveal a city with a collective hangover, but rather a place of beauty not overrun by tourists and exuding a more subtle glamour that previously popularised the Riviera.

While in Monaco, I stayed at the iconic Hotel Metropole located right on the main gardens of Monte Carlo, close to the casino and the main square, yet sufficiently set back at the end of a long narrow driveway to keep the throngs of day tripping tourists from getting too close.

The ornate exterior of the hotel dates back to the Belle Epoque period and is in stylist harmony with the other grand buildings surrounding the main square, which gives the impression of an exclusive urban destination in the middle of a chic and vibrant area.

The interior holds a world of decadence in plush velvets set to a background of cool lounge music, all bearing the signature touch of world renowned designer Jacques Garcia.

Our junior suite was spacious with floral prints and rich fabrics, which was more sedate and classic than the vibe that the communal areas create of the hotel. The large bathroom featured an enormous shower with Hermes beauty products, and the bedroom windows opened to beautiful views of Monaco.

The pool was unfortunately closed for renovations during our stay, but the grand re-design by Karl Lagerfeld is currently being implemented, which is due to be unveiled at the end of summer. The second phase of the renovations will finish in early 2013 with a third Joel Robuchon restaurant designed by Karl Lagerfeld, adding to his eponymous two Michelin-starred restaurant, the hotel's main restaurant, and YOSHI, the hotel's Japanese offering.

Service was impeccable throughout our stay at every level, striking the ideal balance between being formal, efficient and friendly.

Monaco specialises in formal fine dining and on our first day, we were lucky enough to secure a reservation at one of the best tables in town - Le Louis XV by Alain Ducasse. This is the restaurant where Ducasse, one of the world's most celebrated chefs, initially made a name for himself and earned his first three Michelin stars.

The dining room is ornate with gold gilding and crystal chandeliers; interior doors are marked by antique mirror panels; and one wall of glass doors opens onto the exterior terrace that overlooks the Place de Casino (in the summer, be sure to request one of these prized seats).

We indulged with the 25th anniversary tasting menu, which was a tour de force of Ducasse's finest creations. Our lunch started with a trolley of a variety of champagnes encased in ice, setting the scene for a truly memorable lunch that lingered long into the afternoon.

A mesmerising array of bread was accompanied by an enormous cylinder of butter wheeled out on a cooled piece of marble. A health conscious meal this is not; but the taste sensations are worth the sacrifice.

The seven course tasting menu ranged from one exemplary dish to another, but notable highlights included San Remo Gamberoni with delicate rockfish gelée and caviar; veal with wild mushrooms, potatoes and onions (which they kindly substituted in for us); local 'fraises des bois' with mascarpone sorbet; and warm Piedmond hazelnut soufflé. Le Louis XV was a truly memorable lunch that is a must for any visit to Monte Carlo.

My second meal in Monaco was less elaborate, but no less noteworthy. In a kitchen overseen by another celebrity chef, YOSHI is Joel Robuchon's first venture into pure Japanese cuisine. I ordered a bento box to sample a broad array of dishes, most of which sounded familiar as Westernised Michelin-style Japanese fare, but each was executed to a very high standard, with the seaweed salad and the miso cod being particularly noteworthy.

YOSHI's décor is a breath of fresh air in a city that seems to shy away from modern design. The bijoux restaurant has lime velvets and pink silks as accents in a room of a dark wood base with views directly onto a small zen garden. This is a perfect place to pause and take a break from the hustle and bustle of Monaco, while still enjoying excellent Japanese cuisine.

Monaco has a reputation for refined formality in its restaurants, which was clearly evident in another memorable dining experience at Le Vistamar at l'Hermitage, which had stunning views of the palace to match the quality of the food. However, there seems to be the stirrings of a movement towards more relaxed dining, with locals embracing the gastropub phenomenon with the opening of Explorers in the harbour and with more casual brasseries increasing in popularity.

I believe that Monaco should continue to embrace what it does best and not shy away from its opulence and decadence. You visit Monte Carlo for the haute hotels, fine dining, the casinos and the nightclubs, and on our recent visit, you won't be disappointed.

You may have heard of Cap Ferrat and Cap d'Antibes, both exquisite destinations on the Cote d'Azur, but not many will have heard of Cap Estel, and therein lies one of Cap Estel's many beauties.

Without any obvious signs or directions, with an imposing gate and visible high security, Cap Estel makes privacy and discretion a big priority, which might explain its A list status on the Cote d'Azur.
You are immediately struck by Cap Estel's gorgeous setting - the impressive driveway meanders through lush greenery, leading to the palatial lobby and reception area.

The sheer magnitude of Cap Estel's glorious surroundings is only realised on walking through the lobby, past the glamorous bar with its chandeliers and leather bar stools, reaching the terrace at the edge of the steps that take you down to the gardens.

You are greeted by a view of extreme beauty - meticulously manicured lawns and pristine plants and foliage lead to a saltwater pool that sits ceremoniously at the edge of the cliff, stretching out to sea, blending with the sky in the distance. If the pool isn't enough to tempt you (it really should be), there's also a private pebble beach on the other side of the cap, which offers a secluded, calming retreat.

Cap Estel is a grand property that also feels rather bijoux. There are only 18 rooms, 14 of which are suites, and it feels like your own private (yet enormous and lavish) home. Our junior suite was located in its own building perched on the edge of the gardens, built into the cliff, suspended over the Mediterranean sea, all of which results in truly stunning views.

The room was designed in summer blues, with a separate sitting area, ample closet space, an outdoor seating area and two balconies suspended over the rocks and sea below, but the bed was surprisingly uncomfortable and the bathroom was small and could benefit from a redesign.

La Table du Cap Estel offers refined Mediterranean cuisine in a serene and picturesque setting with the flavours highlighting local products and seasonal specialties. Freshly picked asparagus, line caught fresh fish and local tomatoes were prepared with care and skill and provided a luxurious accompaniment to the beautiful surroundings of the formal restaurant, which spilled into the gardens for the summer season.

The summer bar opens at the foot of the cap where you can revel in the evening views over an Armagnac before retiring to bed to the sound of crashing waves.

The gym, indoor pool and spa rooms are built into the cliff next to the infinity pool, and with the windows of the gym and spa looking out to the sea, you may be lucky to catch a stray wave on a windy day crashing into the window from your exercise machine.

For fear of being too effusive, I shall end this review with one final thought: Cap Estel is an exquisite hotel in a majestic setting that fully captures the essence of the Cote d'Azur.

A former 13th-century hunting lodge is now home to Lime Wood, one of the UK's chicest boutique country house hotels, a mere two hours from London, in the New Forest Park.

The interiors, from celebrated designer David Collins, involve a modern take on the traditional country house style: effortlessly luxurious, striking a perfect balance between being cool, modern, classic and sophisticated.

The main house perches ceremoniously at the end of a long, sweeping driveway, with beautiful manicured grounds leading the way. The 29 rooms and suites are split between the main house and the various outbuildings - the Coach House, Crescent and Pavilions - ranging from the entry level 'Cosy' (Cosy in Lime Wood's definition means spacious and extremely comfortable) through to signature Forest Hideaway Suites. Our Crescent duplex suite was a delight with a wood burning fire on each floor - a real treat for us city folk!

The rooms of Lime Wood's main house are a series of cosy lounges with plump couches and roaring fires, which are inviting at any time of day - from reading the morning papers with the sunshine streaming through the windows, to taking afternoon tea or sipping the final glass of port after dinner.

There are plenty of logs by each fire and the relaxed feeling of the house means you are free to feed the fire on your own and truly feel like the lord of the manor. Service at Lime Wood is seamless - the staff, dressed in fashionable country clothes, are ever present but never noticeable, which is a difficult thing to master.

There are two restaurants on offer: The more informal Scullery, which, with its whitewashed wooden floors, flower pots and condiments on show, could only be described as 'country house chic', and the main restaurant, The Dining Room, which provides an informal setting for serious cooking and a perfectly glamorous night out, once again highlighting the hotel's ability to be both luxurious and relaxed at the same time.

Organic and locally sourced seem to be high on the priorities for both restaurants - wild mushrooms, garlic, local venison and home-reared beef and lamb - which one would expect given nature's prominence all around.

The Herb House Spa is a true gem, with a whole host of treatments on offer, a Technogym, an indoor pool, sauna, indoor Jacuzzi and a magnificent outdoor pool that was blissful on a January evening where temperatures plummeted below zero. The rooftop sunlouge was redundant on our visit but would surely be a huge hit in the summer months. There is also an adjoining Raw Bar serving a selection of fresh salads, smoothies and cocktails.

One of Lime Wood's greatest assets is the natural surroundings within which it sits. The immediate grounds surrounding the hotel resemble a beautifully groomed English garden, complete with a swing hanging from one of the century old oak trees.

On leaving the property through the designated gates, you are immediately in the heart of the New Forest with its stunning scenery and wild horses roaming freely in the parkland. After a long walk through the forest, there is no better place to return to than Lime Wood and its roaring fires.

For a chic, glamorous yet utterly relaxing weekend country break from London, Lime Wood really hits the spot.

London has an abundance of world-class luxury hotels but sometimes you want to feel like you're at home. Introducing onefinestay, which makes you feel just that. Except that you're in another person's home.

One of the main attractions is that each property is different - from a loft in Clerkenwell to a townhouse in Primrose Hill, you can choose the area, style and design that suits your individual tastes. Its aim is to make visitors feel and live like locals in London, offering homes in neighbourhoods that might not be catered for by luxury hotels. With keys to your own temporary front door, you can greet your neighbours, explore the side streets and discover some hidden gems.

Self-styled as an 'unhotel', the reservation process is as seamless as with a regular hotel, but with an added element of the personal touch. On arrival, a member of staff will greet you at the property to give you a full tour, explain the intricacies of the property and hand you a pre-loaded iPhone that you can use at your leisure throughout your stay.

We stayed in a three bedroom townhouse on the Chelsea / Fulham border, which was smart, spacious, and with plenty of room to entertain. With full use of a large kitchen and separate dining room, a dinner party was inevitable. Having spent the afternoon in the kitchen surrounded by whisks and piping bags, drowning in olive oil and seasoning, when it came to turning on the oven hours later to warm the hors d'oeuvres, the oven decided not to work.

We called someone in customer service who was very polite and helpful but, having spent an hour looking through manuals, they kindly offered to send us a food hamper instead. We declined the offer and managed by using the hobs instead of the oven, something that confirmed the need for a team of sous chefs for all future dinner parties.

Despite everything working out for us, the incident highlighted a potential pitfall for onefinestay - without a maintenance man on the premises, such issues could eventually become rather problematic for them. However, given the efficiency with which they handled our issue and the solution that they had offered (they still kindly sent us a couple of bottles of wine despite not needing the food basket), I'm confident that they could handle anything thrown at them.

With a whole house filled with photographs, books and CDs to explore it's difficult not to be nosey, but certain cupboards and drawers are discreetly sealed with special tamper proof tape to prevent you from peering too closely. One of the joys of onefinestay is that you get to feel like you're at home, surrounded by all the comforts and amenities that you could wish for, but going to sleep with someone else's wedding photos on your side table is a strange feeling.

The price will depend on your specific property - our three bedroom house starts from £400 per night, which, if travelling with friends or family, is very reasonable for the quality and service. Each house is fully cleaned before and after each visit with a daily maid service available with fresh linens, towels and The White Company bath products.

For those who require 24 hour room service, a business centre and fully equipped gym, onefinestay was never going to be the answer, but if you want to experience life as a Londoner in luxurious and spacious surroundings at a reasonable cost, onefinestay might be right up your street.

FYI: onefinestay has expanded from just 6 host members in 2010 to more than 250 today. The company backed by venture capital firm Index Ventures along with Brent Hoberman, co-founder & CEO of Lastminute.com, among other angel investors.

South Beach is Miami's Art Deco jewel, a place full of energy and excitement, with a vibrant beating heart. The Setai's Zen-like tranquillity and Asian elegance offers a welcome contrast to both the frantic pace and the plethora of uber-designed, modern boutique hotels that dominate the skyline.

From the main entrance on Collins Avenue, you can see the hotel's eight-story classic Art Deco building, but inside, you have one of the city's most beautifully designed spaces, with a palpable serenity and soothing atmosphere.

Heavy Asian design influences are offset by orange accents, including carefully placed oranges (seamlessly replaced by candles at sundown) and stunning centrepiece displays of 500 orange roses.

The Art Deco building contains 85 studio suites, averaging a capacious 600 square feet, each with flat-screen televisions, iPod docks, complimentary espresso machines, Asprey bath products and exquisite Duxiana beds.

The adjacent 40-storey tower contains 45 one, two and three bedroom suites, ranging from 900 to 3,500 square feet, each with floor-to-ceiling windows, full kitchens, Jacuzzi bathtubs and balconies offering panoramic views across the ocean or of downtown Miami in all its glory.

There is also a 10,000 sq ft penthouse suite with spectacular balconies, private lap pool, Jacuzzi and glorious views of the Miami skyline.

The three swimming pools are the hotel's focal point, each heated to a different temperature, gradually becoming warmer as you get closer to the beach. The poolside assistants are wonderfully attentive, with an array of cooling products replenished unobtrusively throughout the day.

The day beds offer an ideal place from which to enjoy an afternoon cocktail (the frozen bellini was a particular highlight) but lunch is best enjoyed at the oceanfront restaurant, the Pool & Beach Bar, one of the few South Beach hotels where you can dine with views of the ocean.

Service is exemplary throughout: warm, friendly and attentive with eastern and western hospitality blending seamlessly, and complimentary wifi throughout the hotel, as well as poolside, was particularly welcome.

The spa at The Setai, which continues with the Asian influence in both design and treatments, is intimate, calming and thoroughly relaxing. Each spa suite has ocean and pool views, a private bath and steam room, and can accommodate two people to enjoy treatments at the same time. Our Balinese massage was truly delightful and a perfect way to unwind after a hard day soaking up the sun.

With its beautiful design, impeccable service levels and endearing tranquillity, The Setai is undoubtedly one of Miami's best hotels, with the added benefit of having South Beach's decadence on its doorstep.

The Dorchester Collection is synonymous with grand, iconic hotels in some of the world's most desirable destinations, with each hotel as stylish and sophisticated as the next.

Coworth Park, the group's first standalone launch, opened in the autumn of 2010 on a 240 acre estate of rolling meadows and polo fields in Berkshire near Ascot, less than an hour by car from London and a mere 20 minutes from Heathrow airport.

In a clear contrast to its other UK properties (The Dorchester and the recently opened 45 Park Lane), Coworth Park is the epitome of a true country house estate and an ideal weekend getaway from London.

Most of the action occurs in the main Georgian manor house, the Mansion House, with views of immaculate grounds from every corner. There are 70 rooms and suites in total, spread between the Mansion House and the converted stable block and renovated cottages, which adds to the charm of the property.

The rooms are of a contemporary classic style, exuding a sense of understated luxury, with warm, neutral tones and splashes of autumnal colours creating a calming and relaxing mood. The stables, which feature a combination of lateral and vertical suites, some with their own staircases, are of a similar design aesthetic, interspersed with witty equestrian references. Spacious bathrooms feature large rainfall showers, dual sinks and freestanding copper baths.

One of the highlights of the visit was dinner at 'Restaurant Coworth Park', the hotel's main restaurant. The dining room exudes sophistication with a beautiful and dramatic light feature dominating the room. The restaurant was originally under the guidance of John Campbell, the celebrated chef who held 2 Michelin stars at the Vineyard at Stockcross. He has since departed, but the current chef is incredibly talented as we were served a refined, interesting and meticulously prepared 8 course tasting menu, which richly deserved its first Michelin star in the 2012 UK Michelin Guide.

The Barn offers a casual yet refined dining alternative, with a 'rustic chic' design of stone floors and reclaimed wood dining tables. The menu features classic, hearty dishes such as fish pie, sirloin steak and roast chicken, which is ideal for lunch after a long walk through the impeccably groomed grounds.

For the more active guest, there is an array of activities available, including tennis and horse riding at the equestrian centre, but the spa was too tempting an alternative for us. The spa is a modern, eco-building, over two floors, half of which is underground with plants growing on the roof.

The spa has eight treatment rooms, a relaxation room, an 18m heated pool, a steam room and a 'Spatisserie' if you want a light snack and a glass of champagne in between treatments.

While service seemed to lack the finesse of some of the group's other properties (this will surely come with time), the staff were all charming, polite and professional. On our visit, there were a few mishaps with the air conditioning and the shower, but these issues were handled with impeccable care and grace.

With its understated glamour and contemporary classic style, Coworth Park is a beautifully modern take on the traditional country house hotel, which makes a perfect weekend retreat from London.

2011 was a great year for London food enthusiasts with an extraordinary number of new restaurants, a large proportion of which were of an excellent quality. Here's myguide to best new openings of 2011.

Dinner By Heston

2011 started with a bang in January with Heston Blumenthal's first foray into the London restaurant scene at the Mandarin Oriental with Dinner by Heston. 'Dinner', one of the most anticipated restaurant openings of recent years, received immediate acclaim by critics, collecting its first Michelin Star in the 2012 UK Michelin Guide later in the year. The signature 'Meat Fruit' is worth a visit alone.

Hedone

Quiet Chiswick High Road is not renowned as a cultural hotspot, but perhaps that's why Mikael Jonsson chose it as the location for Hedone, his first restaurant project. The Swedish ex-lawyer turned Chef is not afraid to challenge people's assumptions and since opening in July 2011, Hedone has not only challenged, but surpassed expectations.

Critics and Chefs alike have flocked to try some of the most unusual and triumphant dishes on the London restaurant scene, and with a three-week waiting list for tables, one to book ahead.

Riding House Café

The team behind the acclaimed Garrison and Village East in Bermondsey opened the Riding House Café, an all day Brasserie offering a selection of small plates to share as well as traditional main courses in Fitzrovia. The restaurant has a great vibe and a 'buzzy' bar area too.

Spuntino

Spuntino was one of three new ventures in 2011 from the team behind Polpo and Polpetto, the successful Venetian 'bacaros' in Soho. Spuntino also features sharing plates, but inspired by New York instead of Italy, with its various sliders and Mac'n'Cheese being stand-out dishes. Like its sister restaurants, Spuntino has a no reservation policy, so expect to queue as this place is still very popular.

Pollen Street Social

Jason Atherton, formerly of Gordon Ramsay's Maze, opened Pollen Street Social in Mayfair, and it has quickly risen to become one of London's most popular restaurants, also collecting its first Michelin star towards the end of the year. The restaurant is a modern, relaxed take on a 'fine dining' restaurant.

Massimo's

Massimo Restaurant & Oyster Bar is a Mediterranean restaurant specialising in seafood, in The Corinthia Hotel, located between Trafalgar Square and Embankment. The head chef, Massimo Riccioli, comes from the celebrated La Rosetta in Rome.

The main dining room, designed by David Collins, is truly stunning. The restaurant also features an oyster and crustacean bar and The Chef's Table caters for up to 18 diners with its own dedicated kitchen where Massimo Riccioli cooks for guests.

Hawksmoor Guildhall

The team behind Hawksmoor opened their third steak restaurant and cocktail bar, Hawksmoor Guildhall, in the City in October. With impeccably cooked steaks and a cool cocktail bar, this is already a huge hit in the City.

CUT at 45 Park lane

Continuing with London's interest in steak restaurants, 'Cut' opened in the new 45 Park Lane hotel, the latest hotel from The Dorchester Collection.

'Cut' is a restaurant by Wolfgang Puck, the celebrated US chef, who opened the original 'Cut' at the Beverly Wilshire hotel in Beverly Hills in 2006. The London outpost serves excellent steaks in a suitably glamorous dining room.

Opera Tavern

London has seen the addition of some great Spanish restaurants, starting the year with the Opera Tavern, a 'restaurant and tapas bar' in Covent Garden from the team behind Salt Yard and Dehesa.

Located in a renovated pub, the restaurant retains some of the building's original features, and the exposed bricks and low lighting create a relaxed, intimate feel.

Senkai

The Ignite Group opened Senkai, a modern Japanese restaurant on the former 'Cocoon' site in the West End. The restaurant features a signature 'raw bar,' which seats 20 people and offers seafood platters, tiradito and tataki dishes and ceviche, as well as dishes from a robata grill.

There is also a relaxed cocktail lounge, which has a feature wall of Japanese prints, seating up to 50 people with a drinks menu of contemporary and classic cocktails and bar food.

Late Arrivals

The Delaunay, sister restaurant to The Wolseley from restaurateurs Chris Corbin and Jeremy King, opened on the corner of Drury Lane and Aldwych. The restaurant is open seven days a week - until midnight from Monday to Saturday and 11pm on Sunday - serving breakfast, afternoon tea, and à la carte lunch and dinner menus 'inspired by the grand cafés of Europe'.

Caprice Holdings has launched '34', a restaurant located just off Grosvenor Square in Mayfair. 34 is the group's first restaurant launch and will add to its portfolio, which includes The Ivy, J Sheekey's and Scott's, one of Bon Vivant's London favourites. The restaurant specialises in meats and seasonal game but also offers 'lighter dishes, fish and shellfish'.

Kitchen Joel Antunes, a 95-seat restaurant with a 40-seat terrace, has opened at Embassy Mayfair, offering a Provençal-based menu from chef Joel Antunes, with a late licence until 1:30 am.

With each new year comes new experiences, new trends and the occasional unfortunate fad. Here's Bon Vivant's opinion on the food and travel trends that we will face in 2012.

Restaurant and Food Trends for 2012

Repeat Customers

2012 and beyond will be about focusing on customer loyalty and retention, moving away from one-off 'daily deal' offers with large discounts by focusing on securing repeat business by loyal customers. As such, restaurants will need to really focus on customer service as a priority and consistently exceeding expectations.

No More Pop-Ups?

The end might also be near for the pop-up phenomenon in its current form as consumers move away from always searching for the next temporary fad. For the pop-up to re-appear next year, it will need to evolve and offer something more inspiring.

Sharing Plates

The small sharing plate concept that has been so popular recently looks set to continue. The 'tapas' effect has already been firmly established with Italian restaurants (think Polpo, Tempo, Bocca di lupo) and will undoubtedly make its way into other cuisines over the next year.

Fat Content

We might also see more restaurants offering nutritional information on their menus, which will surely cause a stir. A sensible solution would be to make it optional and not mandatory on menus.

Travel Trends for 2012

Call The Experts

Travel experts will become increasingly popular over the next few years, moving away from the recent trend of social media platforms and review sites. Consumers will want itineraries tailored to their own specific tastes and desires, which relies on the personal touch of a reliable, trustworthy travel expert who gets to know you personally.

Forward Planning

To coincide with this, planning further in advance will become more of the norm, with a decline in last minute holidays.

South America = Hot

South America will become a popular destination, combining food and wine experiences in Argentina with activity based holidays in the Patagonia region, for example. Brazil will also start to feature more heavily in the run-up to the major sporting events over the next few years.

Once in a Lifetime

'Once in a lifetime' holidays will become more prevalent with travellers wanting 'bucket list' experiences, ranging from visiting the natural wonders of the world to trying world-famous restaurants across the globe.

What are your thoughts on the food and travel trends for the coming year? We would love to hear your comments below!

The Four Seasons brand is synonymous with stylish, sophisticated hotels providing the ultimate in comfort and 5 star amenities, which is particularly true of its property in Midtown Manhattan. Towering over 57th Street, between Park and Madison, The Four Seasons is one of New York's finest hotels, which is quite the accolade in a city bustling with world class hotels.

The hotel's most striking feature is its commanding, yet austere, lobby with its marble floors, giant pillars and cathedral height ceilings, which give the space a surreal feeling of peace and tranquillity in a clear juxtaposition to the hustle and bustle of the city outside. Starting from the lobby and filtering all the way through the public spaces and guest rooms, the hotel has a timeless art deco elegance updated to reflect modern times.

With 368 rooms, including 63 suites, with the smallest room being a capacious 600 sq ft, the hotel is a giant in all respects, but thankfully manages to retain a sense of intimacy and exclusivity. The rooms are nicely appointed with light woods and cream furnishings, the epitome of understated luxury, with just the right amount of contemporary gadgetry. The large windows offer sublime views of the Manhattan skyline, some looking directly over Central Park and beyond. Rooms come with a separate dressing area and large marble bathrooms with deep-socking baths that fill in 60 seconds.

The hotel's proximity to Central Park creates an ideal pairing between one of the city's most iconic features and one of its most luxurious hotels. The hotel is also ideally positioned for the city's most luxurious shopping experience with Fifth Avenue, Barney's and Bloomingdale's all a mere credit card's throw away, as well as being convenient for the mid-town business district and expertly equipped for the business traveller, despite having to pay for WiFi in the rooms.

As one might expect, The Four Seasons New York excels with its dining options, the showpiece being L'Atelier de Joël Robuchon from legendary chef Joël Robuchon, which recently achieved the prestigious accolade of 2 Michelin stars in the 2012 Michelin guide. Breakfast is served in the magical setting of The Garden restaurant with its enchanted forest feel.

The crowning glory of the hotel must surely be its service levels - from the attentive doormen to the 30 minutes' pressing service, someone is always on hand, making sure that every whim and desire is taken care of.

The combination of its location, glorious views, service excellence and comfort levels make The Four Seasons New York a true giant in the hotel world, and deservedly so.
