Founder of forced marriage charity Karma Nirvana and author of Shame

Jasvinder Sanghera CBE is a survivor of early and forced marriage. She is the award-winning author of Shame and Cosmopolitan magazine’s ‘Ultimate Woman of the Year 2010’. She is an activist and advocate for women's rights and co-founder of Karma Nirvana, a community-based project where several refuge centres across the United Kingdom serve as safe-housing for South Asian women fleeing forced marriages. When faced with the prospect of a forced marriage herself, she ran away from home, a story documented in her debut novel Shame. Her second novel, Daughters of Shame, tells the stories of fellow survivors of forced marriage.
