Laura Richards

Founder of national stalking advocacy service Paladin

Laura is Founder of Paladin, National Stalking Advocacy Service. She is an award winning analyst, advocate, activist and author of the DASH Risk Model and book entitled 'Policing Domestic Violence' published by Oxford University Press. Laura is co-creator and host of the podcast Real Crime Profile and co-creator and executive on The Case of: JonBenét Ramsey which premiered on CBS in 2016 and The Case of: Caylee Anthony which premiered on Oxygen in 2018. Laura was a consulting producer and appeared on screen in "Dirty John, The Dirty Truth which premiered on Oxygen in January 2019. Paladin was launched in 2013 following the successful All Party Parliamentary Stalking Law Reform Campaign. Laura was a specialist adviser to the Inquiry which resulted in stalking becoming a criminal offence on November 25 2012. Laura also led the campaign on Domestic Violence Law Reform which resulted in the offence of coercive control being implemented in 2015. Laura is a criminal behavioural analyst and adviser who has worked in intelligence and serious crime for the last decade at New Scotland Yard. Laura set up the first Homicide Prevention Unit in the UK, as well as heading up the Violent Crime Intelligence and Analysis Unit in the Metropolitan Police Service and has worked and trained at the Behavioural Analysis Units at the FBI. Laura has profiled serious crime for many years including the murders of JonBenét Ramsey, Natalie Esack, Clare Bernal, Amélie Delagrange, Sally-Ann Bowman, Jodie Dubrowski and Banaz Mahmod. She has also written expert witness reports for court. Laura has not only studied behaviour using her psychology degrees and operational experience, but she has also applied this knowledge to developing pioneering, front line, practical tool kits to assist in early identification, intervention and prevention. Laura was responsible for developing the Domestic Abuse, Stalking and Honour based Violence (DASH 2009) Risk Identification, Assessment and Management Model on behalf of ACPO and in partnership with Safe Lives. Laura has developed many national training packages including the Home Office training package on Domestic Homicide Reviews and the Stalking and Advocacy training and the award winning College of Policing training on stalking. www.laurarichards.co.uk
