Matthew Walker
Anthropologist, social media researcher, counter-extremism practitioner
Matthew is currently working at the Institute for Strategic Dialogue (ISD), focussing mainly on the Online Civil Courage Initiative (OCCI) which seeks innovative ways to challenge hate speech online. He has previously worked in the charity and educational sectors and has taught English in East Asia and the Middle East. He studied BSc Anthropology at University College London, and spent a year at the University of Chicago, where he conducted fieldwork with Chicago’s Assyrian community as part of his dissertation on ISIS and their persecution of Christians in Iraq.
