Philippa Asher

Anglophile, Indophile, Certified Ashtanga yoga teacher

Born in England in the 1970s, Philippa trained as a dancer at vocational ballet school in Sussex. She spent five years at Surrey University reading Dance Anthropology, History and Performance and continued as a Post Graduate studying Marketing and then the Education of Adults. She taught for the Education Departments of the Royal Ballet and English National Ballet and then moved into media for twelve years in Soho, working with music and film clients. She chanced upon yoga as child and joined the yoga club at University. In the late 1990s (whilst enjoying the hedonistic world of media) she walked into an Ashtanga yoga class in London. It changed her life. After numerous visits to India to study with guru Sri K Pattabhi Jois, Philippa became the only British woman to be Certified by him to teach the Ashtanga yoga method. She set up and ran a busy Ashtanga yoga programme in Soho for five years, before relocating to India to build an Ashtanga yoga retreat in the hills of the Western Ghats. She teaches at ASHTANGA NIRVṚTA in India from January through to April and in London and Europe from May to December. www.ashtangaphilippa.com
