Robert J. Brown

Equality Activist

Robert Brown started his first LGBT group at the age of 15 years old whilst growing up in Perth, Scotland. On moving to London at the age of 17 he became involved with the Gay Teenage Group and started practising the Buddhism of Nichiren Daishonin at the age of 19 years old in 1990.

In the mid 1990s with a lesbian Buddhist member they established The Absolute Freedom Group, a group of Soka Gakkai International - UK (SGI-UK) Nichiren Buddhists who decided to take this particular branch of Buddhism in to the LGBT community.

Whilst the name has changed to the 'Rainbow Committee of SGI-UK' with different SGI-UK members now taking the lead, Robert continues to explore issues dealing with LGBT spirituality and religion - mainly through his website: www.rainbow-citizen.com.

Over the years Robert have been interviewed on radio, television, appeared in various newspapers and magazines in the UK, New Zealand and Australia and has been fortunate enough to appear on various panel discussions talking about faith, religion and spirituality from an equality and LGBT perspective.
