Ruth Marvel is Director of Policy and Campaigns at the disability charity Scope. She works on policy influencing and campaigning on a wide range of areas including civil and human rights, inclusive democracy, welfare reform and access to equipment. Ruth has worked in the disability sector for over a decade, leading policy and legislative work on a range of areas including civil and human rights and inclusive democracy.

Ruth started her career as a Sabbatical Women's Officer at Cambridge University Students' Union and successfully campaigned to improve childcare provision and better representation of state school students at the University.

Ruth joined Scope in 2000 as a Campaigns Officer and since then has successfully campaigned on a range of key issues for disabled people including the creation of comprehensive disability discrimination legislation and the ratification of the UN Convention on disabled people's rights. Ruth also Chairs the Disability Charity Consortium Policy Directors' group which brings together seven leading national disability organisations to discuss strategic priorities and coordinate influencing across the sector. Ruth is a trustee of a small development charity that supports infrastructure and capacity building projects in Malawi and is a Fellow of the 2012 Clore Social Leadership Programme.

She says, “Scope has so much expertise and passion across the organisation; working together we really can change the world and ensure disabled people can enjoy the same opportunities and quality of life as everyone else.”
